Right now, the theme only supports the top level index page to appear within the main navigation, and I would like to be able to reveal the sections within the index in a dropdown menu upon hover.
This would likely involve creating anchor tags for the different sections and then referencing them in the dropdown menu, but I'm not sure what code I need to inject in order to achieve this, and how to do it without breaking the navigation for tablet and mobile.
I've seen others attempt to do this by creating folders and then referencing the index sections as a page within a folder, but this doesn't achieve the effect I'm looking for because, if a user clicks on the section within the dropdown navigation, it will only reveal that particular section and the user cannot scroll up or down to view the other sections. Does this make sense? In short, what I'm looking to do is to create dropdown menu navigation for the sections within an index using anchor tags.
Have you tried using link pages in a folder? I can explain this, but don't want to waste time if you've already tried it. Hi there. I understand that it is your website, so you want it to look a specific way, but just as an FYI, in modern web design, on a navigation menu, you generally don't want the link-active action to take over. That's considered kind of dated in the web world.
The logic is that people are aware now that as soon as they hover over the nav, it will show as active like the way your text color changes on hover.
Also, most browsers show the annoying line under links whick ruins the elegant part of the design. The gray color on your site is pretty passive. How to tune a general lee cb radio
There are options to change those colors, etc. Yes, it's a great work-around, amd that is what i did in the end. But i'm not much for hand-coding. Any ideas of something i could try?
Thanks for the advice, it's welcomed, including visual tips. However, just to make sure you understand my question: i'm not looking to make the title change color with a hover, but when i'm on that particular page, exactly the way it does in this squarespace answers page for instance, questions in highlighted, while tagsusersbadges and unanswered are darker.
Now, since the title in my nav is merely a link, it doesn't highlight when i'm visiting that page. Now I see.Bahrapan ka ilaj
To do that, you'd need to to create separate pages for your categories. I actually think it'd endup looking a bit more tidy that way. I'm always a fan of minimalist building though. Now that you've chosen a Squarespace plan and template, it's time to start customizing the site to your needs. But before you jump into any customizations on your new site's design, it's important to build a foundation through adding pages and setting up your navigation.
This post is part 3 in my new Friday blog post series on Squarespace. When you log into your Squarespace site, you'll land on a page that looks similar to the image below. Last week we discussed the Settings section, but this week we're jumping over to Pages. The Main Navigation includes all of the visible pages that are featured in the navigation bar at the top of your site.
You'll notice that the order that my pages are listed in the left-hand column mimics the order that they're listed across the top of my site. If you would like to switch the order of your pages, you can simply drag and drop the pages into the order that you would prefer. For example, I didn't want to include my Archives page in my Main Navigation or my Footer Navigation, but I wanted to be able to link to it in my blog sidebar.
I set it up as an unlinked page and it's hidden from sight until a visitor clicks on its direct link. Tip: I always suggest that my clients use no more than 6 items in their main navigation; it's simpler, less overwhelming for your visitors, and it helps organize the information on your site. If you need to include more pages in your navigation, consider using folders to house some of them.
Simply drag and drop your pages underneath a folder in your left-hand panel and it will create a drop-down menu for you in your main navigation. A screen will pop up asking you which type of page you would like to create. A cover page allows you to present information on a single bold page and make a powerful introduction to your site. Album pages allow you to upload music and allow visitors to listen to your tracks.
Instead it connects to another website or page within your own site. The Branding and Library options you see in my main navigation are both folders that house individual pages. This is especially helpful for photographers, designers, and artists.Bottle redemption centers near me
It's useful if you have multiple galleries or projects. Once you create a new page, you can go into the page settings by hovering over the page in your navigation and clicking on the gear icon that appears on the right-hand side. Here you can name the page, disable it from being accessible while it's being worked on, give the page a unique URL, set it as your homepage, and even set a password if you would like it to be password-protected.
Once you've set up your page, you can customize it by hovering your mouse over the page on the right-hand screen and clicking "Edit.
Squarespace pages are built and customized using blocks. These blocks allow you to add content like text, images, galleries, divider lines, videos, social media links, and more. You can drag and drop these blocks to customize the pages on your website. To add a new block, hover your mouse over the left side of your screen and an insert point will appear. Click on it to bring up the block menu. From there you can choose the block you would like to insert and continue to build out the pages on your website.
I'll go into more detail on widgets in next week's post, but I have one fun announcement to make Because of your great response to this series these past 2 weeks, I'm hosting a free live webinar on Friday, February 6th at noon EST on how to customize the design of your Squarespace site.
You can find out more details and sign up for this webinar by visiting the new Registration Page. I hope to see you then! After your strategic marketing campaigns and social media efforts, one of the tried-and-tested methods to capture those potential leads is through a quality website Landing Page.
This Landing Page can act as your Home Page promoting your only service or you could have multiple website Landing Pages, each offering a different service. In this tutorial we are going to create a Landing Page for a Wedding Photography business focused on a conversion ie. There is a free day trial with no credit card needed, so you can try risk free. In this tutorial I am adapting the Sofia Template into a long-scrolling Landing Page for our service. The template comes baked with an Index Block — so an easy starting point. Sofia also features a clean long-scrolling layout with great whitespace. There are tons of Squarespace templates with Index Blocks set as the home page see list but if yours does not, insert a new one using the main navigation:.
Each section within an Index Block is essentially a blank area for content, where a template would have pre-designed these area with placeholder content. You can edit content by:. With conversions in mind, lets relook each question, what content we need and why:. How to Create Full Width Sections in Squarespace
Squarespace have a convenient Gallery section block with several layout options. The importance of testimonials is so underrated in Landing Pages and heavily affects conversions. This is your team cheering for you while answering doubts a client could have. A good testimonial commends your service, a great testimonial highlights parts of your service while answering doubts the client could have. Most of those features are self-explanatory, although the latter could benefit from a bit more elaboration: A Squarespace template determines how your site looks and works.
Every Squarespace template belongs to a so-called template family, or a group of similarly coded templates that are alike in their basic structure, functionality, and customization options.
More on the latter in a sec. Some templates give you the tools to go all-out with fonts, colors, image effects, border sizes, landing pages, and more, letting you fine-tune every detail, whereas others offer only a few style options to eliminate any potential hassles. And if you ever feel like switching things up, Squarespace lets you easily swap out templates without losing any of your content. The short of it is this: You get what you pay for. Squarespace offers far less flexibility in comparison, but all of its templates are ultra-reliable and mobile-ready.

Every page on a Five site can feature up to two sidebars; in fact, Five is the only Squarespace template that features a two-sidebar design. Family: Galapagos See Details.
Its customization options are pretty limited compared to most other ecommerce Squarespace templates, but that means you can spend less time designing your site and more time selling your stuff.
Besides your Products page, the Galapagos theme can also support list-style blogs with one sidebar; galleries styled as slideshows or grids; calendars or lists of events; an album page with playable music; and a unique landing page. The folder and link page types on Squarespace are not pages on your site, but they help you structure a more robust navigation.
Folders are useful for organizing pages within your navigation. Links can help you direct people to specific areas of your site or to other places on the web. The folder is probably the simplest of any Squarespace item in Content Manager. You add a folder the same way you add any page to your Squarespace site: by clicking the Add Page link in Content Manager.
When you add a folder, you choose a folder name and a URL name. If you want to rename the folder URL, type a new name in the gray text field below the folder name.
Hover your cursor over the folder name in the Navigation column, and then click the x that appears. When you perform either of the deletion methods, you must confirm the deletion in the Delete Folder dialog box. Deleting a folder will delete the pages in the folder. So make sure you either want to delete the pages in the folder or have moved the pages to another location in your navigation. Disabling a folder only prevents the folder from appearing in your navigation. Any pages in the folder are not disabled and can still be accessed by a direct link.
Adding links to your navigation can be a useful way to help direct people to specific web pages, whether or not the pages are on your site. Link pages do not have a page of their own; they simply allow you to link somewhere else. Hover your cursor over a link item in the Navigation column, and click the gear icon that appears. External: Type the URL for a web page that you want to link. If you want the link to open in a new window when someone clicks it, select the New Window option.
If a link already appears in the link URL field, you can delete it by clicking the trash can icon on the far right of the field. Hover your cursor over the link in the Navigation column, and then click the x that appears. Hover your cursor over the link in the Navigation column, click the gear icon that appears, and then click the Remove Link button.
Both removal methods require that you confirm the deletion in the Delete Link dialog box. Removing a link will delete the link from your navigation. About the Book Author Kris Black is a self-taught web professional who began building websites in and has been using Squarespace since When I first started using SquarespaceI assumed that there would be a function to add full width blocks, and was surprised when I found out that this didn't actually exist.
Especially because full-width is all the rage right now and Squarespace is totally up with the trends. But then how come everyone else could do it!?
I was looking at other Squarespace websites that had enough full width sections to populate 10 websites Squarespace has a lot of different templates to choose from and not all of these templates support full width sections. Technically, you could use any of the templates listed below and make them look exactly the same. Even though the design is different to start with, they all have the same technical bits. The Index acts as the main singular page, each section within the Index will be each full width section on the finished page.
When you hover over your new Content section, a cog symbol will appear.
Go ahead and edit these sections as you would any other page! Easy, right? From here you can experiment with all types of photos and sections. I use it in almost all of my designs and it can really help to achieve a range of styles. For just plain color block sections, create a graphic that is just one color easy right?
Just create a image in photoshop or whatever program you use that is any color you like, then upload it like you would any other image. You can get creative with this and have different colors or patterns. I suggest making your file between pixels wide so that it is high enough resolution. You can also achieve this look with code, but this tip is if you want to keep it super simple. Use high res images! Although it may look good on your small phone screen, when scaled up to a huge mac desktop, is it still going to look good?
If you've downloaded a bunch of professional beautiful stock images kudos to youchances are they're way too big. If the file size is too big, it will take a looong time to load. Best practice is to have all images on your site under KB. You can do this in photoshop with the Save for Web feature, or you can use this free site that compresses images for you: www.
Something to note about Index pages is that the Index page itself and all individual sections within an Index all count towards total pages on your website. So, if you plan to have a lot of full width sections throughout your website, you may need to upgrade to a Squarespace plan that gives you unlimited pages. You can change this in the Style Editorunder where you set the colors for your standard font colors, e.
